Founded in 1914, the Syndicat national de la Librairie Ancienne et Moderne is a group of 250 members, all experts in their own field. Studio LWA was appointed to create a new visual identity for the organisation : a 'semi serif' typeface suggesting a both traditional and modern-day environment was selected to represent the Syndicat. While the institution takes an interest in the younger generation, it is also attached to its historical and scientific core values. The letters of the organisation, arranged in an acronym, are laid out as foundations would be, to support great cultural projects. In the right-hand corner, a graphic object adds strength and energy to the logo design. While it initially represents double inverted commas, a punctuation mark used only in French, it can also be viewed as an oblique projection of a book corner – a kinetic and lively image for this major organisation acting towards the protection of books and bookshops.
