MAISON 20E

This house occupies a surface area of just 119 m². Originally a tiny labourer's house built as two storeys with unconverted attic space, it was extended fifteen years ago, with the garden-facing façade moved by two metres, a small annex housing a cloakroom and bathroom added, and the level of the framework raised to convert the attic space. The current project consists of demolishing the annex to restore the original garden surface area and allow the ground floor façade to be opened up, flooding this single-aspect house with natural light. It is also planned to replace the current attic by building a space set back from the main façade which will be topped with a new zinc roof with a gentler gradient, the upper section of which will house a glass section which will create an overhead source of light for the new floor layout. The new façade will be finished by adding two new frames aligned over the existing openings in the first floor and their shutters. This vertical continuity will lend the building a unity between the attic conversion, the preserved first floor and the newly-designed garden floor.
